DakeLuna - Projects/RIO VISTAS ELYSIAN VALLEY

Keck Ocean-Atmosphere Research Center at UCSD

Landscape design and construction documents for climate research facility on historic coastal campus of Scripps Institution of Oceanography.  The landscape features a tropical courtyard that builds on La Jolla’s legacy of exotic gardens and on the surrounding hillsides native reclamation plantings are seeded and planted to restore coastal sage scrub and to create a common natural setting for two modern buildings.   Species are chosen for foliage texture, and to grow with minimal long-term maintenance. The irrigation system is designed to support a minimal long-term maintenance strategy, provides exact water delivery, and is controlled through the campus-wide Maxicom system.
